INTRODUCTION TO ORIENTATION & EQUIVALENCY (OEI)

This course is for clergy already ordained who wish to join the Mission, we recognise their prior formation while ensuring they align with our safety and theological standards.

  • Candidates Must Demonstrate:
    • Valid Orders: Proof of valid ordination in apostolic succession (form, matter, and intent).
    • Good Standing: Evidence of ethical conduct and a life of integrity.
    • Safeguarding Clearance: A clear police check or appropriate background clearance.
  • Implicit Prior Study: While we do not set a strict “hour” minimum for past study, applicants are assessed to ensure their prior formation is roughly equivalent to our core streams (Sacraments, Scripture, Theology). If significant gaps are found, their required AOCM training will increase.

Incardination Candidates (Training to Complete)

Even experienced clergy must be oriented to the specific life and governance of the Mission. We insist they complete a customised “bridge” program before being fully incardinated.

  • Training Required: The Orientation & Equivalency (OEI) award.
  • Time Commitment: Between 15 to 30 hours of study, depending on background assessment.
  • Mandatory Focus Areas: This training prioritises the specific ethos of the AOCM to ensure unity of vision:
    • AOCM Identity & Governance: Understanding our specific statutes and inclusive ecclesiology (Stream 1).
    • Ministry & Vocation: Understanding the expectation to participate in clergy gatherings and peer support to avoid isolation (Stream 2).
    • Liturgical Familiarity: Ensuring comfort with our approved rites and pastoral approach (Stream 3).
    • Safeguarding: Completion of our specific safeguarding training and conduct covenant (Stream 4).

We view this formation not as a hurdle, but as a covenant of mutual trust—ensuring that every minister at the altar is safe, supported, and spiritually prepared to serve God’s people.
